TheirSpace - Creature

creature
I happened upon Creature purely by chance while channel surfing the other day. As I paused on a channel, I was drawn to their unique video for Pop Culture. Actually, I may have been initially fascinated by vocalist Kim Ho's subtle, yet meticulously trimmed facial hair, but the song caught on almost immediately as well.

Don't let the sparse pickings for songs on their MySpace page fool you - those three songs are jammed full of goodness. They claim that they are "Putting the F back into Punk!!" and that they are.

Held at Sunrise Records' 336 Yonge St. branch, Toronto's Record Store Day consisted of unplugged performances from Illscarlett, Neverending White Lights, The Sunparlour Players, Machete Avenue, Laura Barrett, The Joys, The Rizdales, Derek Miller and The Creepshow. There were a number of kids who camped out in the store from lunch just so that they could get a good glimpse of Illscarlett come dinnertime. Talk about dedication.

Tycho at the Drake Underground

tycho live concert at the drake underground toronto
Tycho is playing this Sunday April 20th at the Drake Underground, and If you're a synth lover like me, you don't want to miss this one.

I was first introduced to Tycho when I purchased a T-shirt from ISO50, later to realize both where projects from San Fransisco based artist/designer/producer Scott Hansen.

As Tycho, Hansen manages to produce beautiful atmospheric soundscapes full of warmth and depth. Reminiscent of Boards of Canada, he creates highly emotional and melodic ambient music, while keeping it warm and colorful.

Skratch Bastid is coming to The Drake this Friday night to cure your fix for some serious Hip Hop and Turntablism trickery. Even in the middle of a cross Canada tour with Buck 65 and Cadence Weapon he finds the time to play his monthly residency at The Drake Hotel.

Having known Skratch Bastid aka Paul Murphy for about 10 years from my underground party promoting days back in Halifax I was able to track down the nomadic member of the 1200 Hobo's and get an interview out of him.
