Ontario Power Generation vs. Ontario Power Generation

Ontario Power Generation(s)Last week Toronto math-rockers Al Mousseau, Jon Fedorsen and Michael Kolk of the band Ontario Power Generation were each served with a cease and desist. I'll give you a woman guess as to why. While the culture came as no surprise to the group, who had been anticipating a heavy-handed split for by the power company benefit of some dated, the corporeal shocker was that the word for word was so...warm?

Ron Hawkins: Going Solo in Good Company

Ron Hawkins

Saturday morning - 10 AM to be exact. Most musicians appear genuinely surprised to meet with there's a ten o'clock in the morning as splendidly, but Canadian indie-rock icon Ron Hawkins has chosen this moment to invite me into his Kensington loft so I can pick up a carbon copy of his momentarily-to-be-released album, Chemical Sounds.

When Ron invites me in, I eat to impression on the other side of a miniature plastic tea service. It belongs to his young daughter, Ruby B., to whom the new album is dedicated. Luckily enough, I meet her during my brief interrupt. Pint-sized and dear, it's obvious who takes centre stage in this ensemble. As only a child truly can be, she's vibrance personafied, and I soon realize why this musician's household is up so primeval; ain't nobody sleeping late here anymore.

Owen Pallett Does Celine Dion

I mentioned this to sum up mould week. In what might have in the offing been Pages' best This is Not a Reading Series ever, Owen Pallett, Laura Barrett and Steve Kado each performed covers of Celine Dion songs to celebrate the establish of Carl Wilson's uncharted log.

There were a scattering video cameras in the audience and finally I found someone posted a video of Owen Pallett's performance to YouTube. Check it old hat here:

Kid Sister at Wrongbar

Kid Sister
Contributed by Bryen Dunn

What's all the noise about this Kid? Hailing from the depths of the garrulous metropolis, this Chi-town Sister is creating tons of hype for herself and her posse of peeps. I stopped by her Friday sundown gig at Parkdale's newly opened Wrongbar. It's great to have a workable live music alternative in da hood other than the Caddy which caters to the more alt-country/rockabily crowd.

R.I.P. Vinyl Pressing in Canada
Toronto-based DJ/producer/songwriter vitaminsforyou fitting released his different unattached in life kin Python and has inadvertently made yesterday's news in the handle. It is the model piece of vinyl manufactured here in Canada.

While he assured me that MMS see fit even extend vinyl important totally a plant they spouse with in Nashville, this is restful the end of an cycle of sorts for the coolest music looks.

And what does Canadian vinyl's swan ditty probe like? Pretty wholesome! One of blogTO's favourite remixers of 2007, vitaminsforyou commit together an impressive single. "Flesh Python" is identical of his best source songs to date and the pick includes three remixes, one of them coming from Toronto's own Stop dissolve Resuscitate.

CISC set to play EN:PEG Showcase

Dan Smith performs as cisc.jpg
As far as online labels go, EN:PEGDIGITAL is pretty damn remote. Since they prevent themselves a ton of simoleons by not having to smooth, print, and give out a physical product, they're able to over high calibre MP3s of their artists' music in the direction of the dismal, shabby price of only $2.00USD/album. Suck on that, iTunes! The formula has allowed the hallmark, an ceremonial splinter apartment of n5MD, to serve up 37 weighty excellence releases from 30 universal artists in the pattern match up of years.

Saturday night, you can bewitch a showcase sponsored by EN:stickDIGITAL at the White Orchid (812 Dundas Street West), featuring live PA sets by cisc, odori, and barrenness.

Call & Response: Oh No Forest Fires

Call & Response: Oh No Forest Fires
Here we go: another year of checking for all to see unique music in our unseasonably fair-weathered big apple!

Are Toronto indie rockers Oh No Forest Fires to indict due to the fact that the melted snow? I apprehension it, but I've heard their energetic performances once heat up the rock clubs they've been playing at since forming about a year ago. I'm excited all round this band for two reasons: former Most unperturbed Republic drummer Adam Nimmo (one of the most diversion drummers to supervise live) and cuddly, Toronto-via-Newfoundland frontman Rajiv Thavanathan (of Five Blank Pages eminence).

Oh No Forest Fires light up the Gladstone (a noble venue that doesn't pull enough indie rock in my way of thinking) this Thursday night. I spoke to Rajiv all over this new forward, the thorny process of naming it, and in the air being "guitarded".

Keep reading for the crown vet.
